JOB GOAL

Responsible for maintaining inventory and operation of the parts department of Transportation Services to ensure all vehicle and equipment needs are met, in accordance with District guidelines and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Order inventory stock and maintain inventory records and stock analysis.
  2. Organize and participate in the annual inventory count for assigned area.
  3. Maintain the inventory system to ensure that items are maintained in an organized manner.
  4. Receive and examine goods shipped and verify completeness of orders; reconcile against bills of invoice and p-card statements; ensure that all items are stored and accounted for appropriately.
  5. Issue vehicle parts and equipment as needed and provide cost information for repairs.
  6. Prepare and maintain annual and monthly budgets for equipment, as directed and in accordance with District guidelines and procedures.
  7. Prepare and maintain all required paperwork, records, and reports in accordance with District guidelines.
  8. Collaborate with vendors to determine pricing and/or availability of necessary parts and supplies to ensure that items are received as needed.
  9. Ensure that all purchasing is done following the process defined by the District Purchasing department guidelines and bids.
  10. Acquire vehicle parts by telephone, mail, or automobile.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to read and interpret shop and technical manuals related to assignments
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • All hires must submit to and pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests in accordance with District requirements
 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma, General Education Degree (GED), or Vocational Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Automotive Technology, or related field
  • One year experience in automotive, school bus maintenance, or other type of fleet maintenance
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.
 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Must have appropriate valid Florida driver’s license required for vehicle(s) driven
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver Plan II or District equivalent
  • Driver’s licensed must be maintained as a condition of continued employment
  • Must obtain Florida Forklift Certification within 2 years of employment and maintain certification thereafter
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Three years’ experience in automotive, school bus maintenance, or other type of fleet maintenance
  • Valid and current Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certification

None

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.    

Cold:  The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures are below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

Heat: The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 90 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

Noise: The worker is subject to noise. There is enough noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Vibration: The worker is subject to vibration. There is exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

Hazards: The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places and exposure to high heat or chemicals.

Atmospheric Conditions: The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions affect the respiratory systems or the skin: fumes, odors, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Oils: The worker is subject to oils. There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • Automotive diagnostic equipment to include meters, scanners, scopes; HVAC recycling equipment; hoists, jacks, lifts, and other related lifting equipment; tire equipment to include balancers, mount/dismount equipment; presses, pullers, hand tools, powered tools; other tooling and equipment commonly related to automotive repair
  • General office equipment, including personal computers, scanners, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
