JOB GOAL

Responsible for understanding business change needs, assessing the business impact of those changes, investigating, researching, defining, and updating data processing applications, capturing and analyzing system requirements, documenting system processes, and supporting the communication and delivery of information to relevant stakeholders.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Analyze and document current workflow systems and procedures in order to make recommendations that improve efficiencies and outputs for all stakeholders.
  2. Document and prepare workflow diagrams and procedures that establish formal standards and aid in writing computer programs.
  3. Coordinate with end users to identify potential computer application areas of strength and weakness to ensure proper functionality and ease of use.
  4. Write, test, and de-bug complex programs by analyzing requirements, constructing workflow charts, studying systems capacities, and creating specifications that meet the needs of end users and stakeholders while complying with local, state, and federal requirements.
  5. Design forms and specifications for District software and hardware usage to ensure system security and efficient operations.
  6. Analyze existing systems, review equipment requirements/configurations, and make recommendations to upgrade when results indicate replacement is necessary.
  7. Prepare, coordinate, and oversee systems implementation to ensure it operates within designated parameters.
  8. Provide technical assistance to staff by writing and maintaining user guides, help desk access, and hands-on training sessions; ensure the efficient and effective communication and delivery of information to relevant stakeholders.
  9. Analyze business process issues and design, test, implement, and evaluate solutions while assessing the business impact of any changes.
  10. Write and maintain user report programs based on the needs of stakeholders.
  11. Maintain records and documentation for the assigned area of responsibility in accordance with District guidelines.
  12. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  13. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Broad knowledge of computer systems, including programming and systems operations
  • Working knowledge of workflow diagrams and multiple programming languages
  • Knowledge of how interchanges and interfaces between systems operate
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Information Technology, or related field
  • Five years’ experience in data processing, computer programming, and systems operations
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the field of Information Technology, or related field
  • Seven years’ experience in data processing, computer programming, and systems operations
  • Experience in computer programming and systems operations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work. 

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
