JOB GOAL

Responsible for generating AutoCAD documents for minor construction, remodeling, or maintenance projects within the District. This includes performing drafting services for the Maintenance Department and Facilities Services Department and assisting in the project permitting process. This position will be responsible for the organization and maintenance of the archive plans and review and filing of as-built drawings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Carry out duties assigned by the Director of Maintenance and Facilities Services, Project Planner, Facilities Specialist, and other administrative staff as applicable.
  2. Design and produce construction drawings and related specification documents using a computer-aided design program (AutoCAD) for District functions, as directed.
  3. Travel to District facilities as necessary to conduct field observation exercises to check building and room arrangements, inspect for fundamental code compliance, and to collect information for drafting purposes.
  4. Maintain and organize construction as-built files, including but not limited to, AutoCAD, PDF, and paper copies.
  5. Develop a complete inventory of AutoCAD, PDF, and hard copy floor plans for every facility in the District to meet the requirements of applicable laws and legislation.
  6. Assist in the maintenance of construction project files, current construction documents, and archival construction plans and documents; ensure they are kept confidential, secure, and accurate.
  7. Oversee the scanning and digitization of construction documents and plans for all District facilities.
  8. Install, set up, and diagnose and resolve issues with scanning equipment, printers, and copier equipment; implement system updates as necessary.
  9. Review as-built drawings from Construction Services and provide feedback as required.
  10. Set up and maintain the file storage server (NAS) for Maintenance and Construction Services.
  11. Maintain, repair, and program Maintenance front gate system.
  12. Assist department and District personnel with clerical tasks and administrative support duties, including maintaining a filing system, compiling data, photocopying and printing documents, providing support to other staff, and other duties as required.
  13. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  14. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  15. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge and understanding of mathematics as it relates to the duties of this position
  • Ability to produce precise AutoCAD scaled architectural drawings without detailed or constant supervision at an industry recognized rate of productivity
  • Proficiency in technological hardware devices and software programs
  • Ability to read and understand drawings for all phases of building construction (Example: Carpentry, AC Mechanical, Plumbing, and Electrical)
  • General knowledge of building code requirements for all phases of building construction
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
 

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum of one year technical drafting experience in the office of a practicing architect, structural engineer, or other business utilizing the AutoCAD drafting software system.

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position
 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver II Plan. Driver’s license must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.
 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Certified uniform building code inspector, educational facilities inspector, or inspector certified under the provision of the Florida Building Code
  • Minimum of two years in an architectural curriculum at an accredited institution or successful completion of an AutoCAD training program
  • Construction-related work experience

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors:The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Hazards:The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places and exposure to high heat or chemicals.

Atmospheric Conditions: The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions affect the respiratory systems or the skin: fumes, odors, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
