JOB GOAL

Responsible for the coordination of transportation for students who receive Exceptional Student Education (ESE) services and serve as a liaison between the schools, Office for Student Support Programs and Services (OSSPS), and Transportation department.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Secure and maintain all pertinent information on transported exceptional students.
  2. Communicate with members of the Transportation department in a manner that promotes maximum rapport.
  3. Work closely and collaboratively with OSSPS to ensure the provision of transportation services for students with disabilities within comprehensive and special school settings.
  4. Respond to questions from principals and school-based staff members for support regarding the transportation of students with disabilities. 
  5. Respond to concerns and prepare correspondence to principals, parents, and community members regarding the provision of special education transportation services to ensure the safe and efficient transportation of special education students.
  6. Evaluate needs and requirements, explain policies and procedures, and ensure that accurate information is communicated to all involved parties.
  7. Advise the District office and school-based personnel on transportation eligibility.
  8. Perform numerous essential record-keeping tasks to organize and maintain department information and filing systems for audit purposes.
  9. Coordinate with various departments within the District and State Department of Education regarding transportation for ESE students.
  10. Inform school staff, parents/guardians, and stakeholders of changes in bus route schedules.
  11. Ensure that all statutes, Florida Department of Education (FLDOE) regulations, and District policies pertaining to school transportation are followed.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • Five years' experience working with the various exceptionalities of exceptional students needing transportation services
  • Five years' experience in school bus operations planning and administration
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of Transportation Management, Exceptional Student Education, or related field
  • Eight years' experience working with the various exceptionalities of exceptional students needing transportation services
  • Eight years' experience in school bus operations planning and administration

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.

The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus. 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
