JOB GOAL

Responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and coordinating a high-quality facility to enhance the sport complex’s athletics program in collaboration with the Office for Leading and Learning and school location. This includes providing opportunities for student and community participation in athletic experiences at the complex, ensuring a fiscally sound sports complex, developing and implementing programs, marketing the facility and its programs, and managing facilities.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Provide leadership and direction for the operation of the facility consistent with the District’s vision, mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
  2. Supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
  3. Oversee and manage the athletic program to ensure quality competition and sportsmanship.
  4. Develop a comprehensive plan for program improvement, including implementation, coordination, and evaluation of the athletic program offerings.
  5. Schedule, facilitate, and coordinate athletic events and ensure that medical, safety, and support staff are appropriately scheduled for events.
  6. Arrange transportation to and from athletic events for students, coaches, and applicable staff.
  7. Coordinate with applicable outlets to ensure appropriate coverage of athletic events, recognition of athletes and coaches, and promotion of athletic programs and activities at the facility.
  8. Order and maintain an adequate supply of materials, equipment, and supplies, approve the purchase of necessary equipment and facility upgrades, and arrange for equipment maintenance as needed.
  9. Coordinate the development, negotiation, and maintenance of contracts with outside vendors and services.
  10. Manage and oversee the program budget, ticket sales, and financial accounting in a fiscally responsible manner.
  11. Submit any accident reports in a timely manner in collaboration with the athletic trainer to Risk Management.
  12. Maintain compliance with Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) standards and procedures, and keep coaching staff and schools informed of new or updated policies.
  13. Maintain accurate records and ensure that all required reports, paperwork, and documentation are kept in accordance with standards; maintain confidentiality as required.
  14. Plan fundraiser campaigns and events for athletic programs and foster positive community relations; collaborate with student support organizations and community groups.
  15. Inspect facilities and equipment for cleanliness, safety, and upkeep.
  16. Initiate and maintain community partnerships with athletic organizations to develop programs that support the District’s vision, mission, goals, and strategic priorities.
  17. Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep up to date on best practices.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of FHSAA policies, procedures, and required software
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution
  • Two years' experience as an athletic director or the equivalent role at an outside organization
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution
  • Four years' experience as an athletic director or the equivalent role at an outside organization
  • Two years' experience in a managerial role

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • Sports equipment, game equipment, apparel, and other equipment utilized by athletics and the facility
  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
