JOB GOAL

Responsible for managing Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) facilities and commercial food equipment in support of school meal programs in accordance with School Board policies and procedures, state, and federal Child Nutrition Program regulations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Direct the creation, implementation, and consistent application of multiple corrective and preventative monthly, quarterly, and annual maintenance schedules for FNS facilities and equipment including vending machines and vehicles.
  2. Prioritize work orders; plan, schedule, coordinate, and assign work and when possible, assign work that promotes development of employees.
  3. Properly store, maintain, and account for all tools and equipment and ensure all are in working order and condition with routine maintenance.
  4. Develop bid specifications for outside contractors and monitor all contractors’ performance to ensure quality and completeness of work within established timeframes and within budget.
  5. Develop specifications and work with construction services to ensure that projects have the appropriate equipment and design that meet FNS short and long-term goals.
  6. Develop and maintain inventory and a replacement plan for all FNS smallware and equipment.
  7. Manage the transfer process for all food service equipment.
  8. Assist with budgeting for equipment and supplies.
  9. Ensure safety, reliability, and potential economic impact by anticipating equipment problems, developing capable employees, and effective tools, and by reasonable use of personnel, equipment, and supplies.
  10. Review and evaluate existing programs, services, policies, and procedures, and develop and update all written departmental procedures when needed.
  11. Track status of work accomplishments, analyze data, and prepare reports and recommendations to reach increasingly higher levels of performance and productivity in assigned areas.
  12. Effectively communicate with customers, vendors, contractors, staff and others regarding corrective maintenance activities, materials, specifications, scheduling, policies, and procedures.
  13. Ensure that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, reliable financial data is maintained, and applicable laws, rules, regulations, codes, policies, and procedures are met.
  14. Maintain and oversee a comprehensive environment, health, and safety program for all reporting personnel by ensuring all applicable regulations, codes, policies, and safety procedures are complied with and training is provided.
  15. Attend training sessions, conferences, and workshops to keep abreast of current practices, programs, and legal issues.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations, regulations, and work safety practice
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus
  • All hires must submit to and pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests in accordance with District requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Facilities Management, or related field
  • Seven years’ experience in a supervisory role directly overseeing a team of skilled craftsperson and/or foodservice personnel
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience, which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid and current Florida’s Driver’s License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver II Plan. Driver license must be maintained as a condition of continued employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Facilities Management, Business Management, or Construction Management, or related field
  • Ten years’ experience in the areas of facilities maintenance, construction, or plant operations

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and/or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as light work.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Cold:  The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures are below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

Heat: The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

Noise: The worker is subject to noise. There is enough noise to cause the worker to shout to be heard above the ambient noise level.                                                                                                                                                    

Vibration: The worker is subject to vibration. There is exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

Hazards: The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places and exposure to high heat or chemicals.

Atmospheric Conditions: The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions affect the respiratory systems or the skin: fumes, odors, mists, gases, or poor ventilation.

Oils: The worker is subject to oils. There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • Hand and power tools, ladders, pallet jacks, and other maintenance equipment
  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
