JOB GOAL

Responsible for performing specialized kitchen duties in preparing, cooking, and serving quality, nutritious food in a clean educational facility. This includes providing direction in food production and assisting manager with other daily responsibilities when needed.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Prepare, serve, and store food ensuring high standards of food quality and quantity. Utilize the most current standardized recipes as provided by the Pasco County FNS Nutrition Team and in accordance with federal, state, and local and district regulations, food safety guidelines, and Hazard Analysis Critical Control Points (HACCP) principles and procedures.
  2. Coordinate food production services by recording menu items prepared, quantity of ingredients used, and leftover portions saved on the daily work production record.
  3. Coordinate with line servers to ensure continuous quantity and quality of items served.
  4. Clean and maintain food preparation areas, storage areas, kitchen equipment, and tools to maintain a clean facility.
  5. Assist management with the preparation of required reports and paperwork.
  6. Assist other staff as needed to ensure efficient operations of the cafeteria.
  7. Maintain compliance with annual United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) mandatory training requirements and FNS district policies as outlined in employee handbook.
  8. Those designated as Relief Production Assistants must adhere to a fluctuating work schedule that varies in assigned location, time, and specific duties.
  9. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Comprehensive knowledge of proper food preparation and kitchen equipment use and care.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing, including electronic media.
  • Ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes.
  • Ability to work well with others, follow directions, and work in a fast-paced environment.
  • May be required to meet the physical requirements of Post Offer Employment Testing (POET).

Additional requirements for Relief Production Assistant:

  • Possess reliable transportation for travel to schools within a geographical area.
  • Valid Florida driver license, district-approved record of safe driving, and proof of insurance coverage.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Functional skills in reading and writing, and basic mathematics.
  • Previous experience in school food service, food service, quantity food preparation, or related experience.
  • Successful completion of at least three (3) Food and Nutrition Services approved courses within the past three (3) years or equivalent external education/training. Area of focus should include topics directly related to the position such as food safety and sanitation, cooking, menu production, and allergens/special diets. Acceptable external equivalence will be determined by the FNS management staff
  • Maintain and track mandatory training as required by USDA Professional Standards for State and Local School Nutrition Programs Personnel and as required by the Healthy, Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Possess a valid food safety manager certification (i.e. ServSafe, Always Food Safe, etc.) or obtain it within six (6) months of hire. 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • A minimum of one (1) year of institutional experience in quantity food preparation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Cold: The worker is subject to extreme cold. Temperatures are below 32 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • Professional ovens, stoves, meat slices, dish machines, a variety of hot and cold food storage equipment, and other food service equipment. This position may also use computers and other technology regularly for record keeping and cashiering practices.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
