JOB GOAL

Responsible for developing job training sites, placing participants at job sites, monitoring the progress of students in the Job Preparation Program, teaching Exceptional Student Education (ESE) career preparation classes, assisting with the oversight of transition/ESE assistants, writing Individualized Education Plans (IEPs), and collecting required documentation and monitoring transition plans in accordance with all District, local, state, and federal guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Monitor, assist, supervise, and support students in the classroom, on campus or on job site throughout the school day and before and after school as directed.
  2. Maintain a student-centered learning environment that is safe, organized, equitable, flexible, inclusive, and collaborative and accommodates the differing needs of students.
  3. Foster a culture of high expectations for all students with various needs by promoting the importance of education and each student's capacity for academic and social emotional achievements.
  4. Utilize a comprehensive knowledge of the subject taught to deliver engaging and challenging lessons and to enrich students’ understanding through content area literacy strategies, verbalization of thought, and application of the subject matter.
  5. Differentiate instruction based on an assessment of student learning needs and recognition of individual differences in students by identifying gaps in students’ subject matter knowledge and applying varied instructional strategies and resources to provide comprehensible instruction and teach for student understanding.
  6. Implement student IEPs as necessary under the guidance of the applicable school and District staff; ensure all students’ needs are being met appropriately.
  7. Design, prepare and implement curriculum for English Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) in collaboration with District staff.
  8. Monitor student behavior using positive behavior supports and/or individual behavior plans, maintain discipline in accordance with required disciplinary policies and procedures, and enforce rules, regulations, the student code of conduct, and District policies to foster safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and other members of the school community.
  9. Assign, grade, and evaluate student work, administer appropriate assessments, evaluate student comprehension and progress on a regular basis, and provide appropriate feedback to students, staff, and parents/guardians as an ongoing evaluation process.
  10. Design and utilize a variety of transition assessments that match learning objectives and lead to mastery while ensuring that all assessments align with established standards and requirements in areas of academic, communication and behavior as needed
  11. Record, prepare, and maintain progress reports, report cards, data regarding behavior and/or behavior plans and health status, and other required reports; ensure confidentiality is maintained, as required by federal, state, and District policies.
  12. Maintain open lines of communication with students and parent(s)/guardian(s) regarding student progress; attend parent/guardian and teacher conferences as required to support student learning and continuous improvement; share information or provide training as needed.
  13. Refer students to the appropriate personnel when evaluation or follow-up services as required; provide information to students and parents/guardians as requested.
  14. Participate in professional learning communities (PLCs) and utilize a variety of data to evaluate learning outcomes, adjust planning, and continuously improve the effectiveness of lessons and the academic program based on students’ needs.
  15. Follow District policies and procedures concerning education, health, safety, equipment, personal information, and the wellbeing of students.
  16. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  17. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current educational trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  18. Maintain the requirements of professional responsibility and ethical conduct by fulfilling expected obligations to students, the public, and the education profession while adhering to all rules and requirements.
  19. Take necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, materials, equipment, and facilities.
  20. Provide support in developing/maintaining students’ daily living needs and medical needs.
  21. Follow the Exceptional Student Education programming for assigned area of exceptional student education in alignment with District, state, and federal requirements and with the total educational philosophy of the District.
  22. Collaborate with others to develop a functional behavior assessment (FBA) for students as required, so that a behavior intervention plan (BIP) is created, implemented, and reviewed/revised with the use of data as needed to assist a student in improving or replacing certain identified behaviors.
  23. Plan and develop the educational program in collaboration with other instructional staff to include scheduling, specially designed instruction, and tailoring accommodation and interventions to unique student needs, which is done through differentiated individual, small group, or classroom instruction.
  24. Identify and collaborate with District, community, and agency services to meet the needs of students needing ESE services/supports, which includes referring students who need further evaluation or follow-up services and providing information to students and parents/guardians, as appropriate.
  25. Update all necessary records accurately and completely as required by federal and state policy, District policy, and school policy.
  26. Monitor and manage transition assistants, instructional assistants, and/or Licensed Practical Nurses, as assigned.
  27. Maintain working relationships with applicable business and industry organizations to determine job training/shadowing opportunities for program participants.
  28. Provide information on a variety of agency services to eligible participants.
  29. Determine potential on campus and off-campus job sites.
  30. Assist with development of contracts for off-campus job sites.
  31. Collaborate with ESE teachers and staff to determine transportation needs for off-campus program.
  32. Perform other duties as assigned

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of ESE, or related field
  • OR
  • Approval by or participation in a state-approved certification pathway program

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Educator’s Certificate, Vocational Certification, or District-issued adjunct certification
  • OR
  • Valid statement of eligibility

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two years' experience in an ESE classroom environment and/or working with children

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force as needed to move objects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
