JOB GOAL

Responsible for administering and coordinating daily operations of risk management. Ensure compliance with all local, federal, and state regulations and School Board policies related to risk management. Perform technical, analytical, and fiscal work in risk management and provide leadership for operational responsibilities to effectively service employees and to ensure risk is properly administered in a cost-effective manner.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Coordinate and delegate duties and functions of staff to ensure compliance with all related regulations and policies and ensure all required deadlines are met.
  2. Provide direction to and supervise assigned personnel, conduct annual performance appraisals, make recommendations for appropriate employment actions, and develop training for assigned staff.
  3. Develop required schedules and reports as needed by internal stakeholders and external agencies.
  4. Research regulatory and statutory changes impacting district operations and recommend changes to reporting and/or departmental procedures to ensure compliance.
  5. Participate in the development of partnerships with labor organizations, consultants, Third Party Administrator (TPA) and carriers to resolve employee problems, develop effective communication tools, and recommend new initiatives and enhancements to current risk management programs.
  6. Survey, identify, analyze, and evaluate elements of risk in all phases of District operations.
  7. Recommend and implement the most advantageous methods of dealing with all elements of risk of lost for such features as frequency, severity, probability, direct results, and contingent results.
  8. Work with the managed care provider to arrange timely and appropriate medical treatment for injured employees of the District.
  9. Collaborate with the District and TPA in analyzing and resolving personal and property injury claims.
  10. Oversee liability issues, accident reports 1 work with insurance carriers and adjusters to resolve such issues.
  11. Communicate with doctors and medical providers to obtain timely and appropriate medical treatment for injured employees.
  12. Investigate job related injuries and make recommendations to prevent future occurrences as well as to improve and enhance the delivery of worker's compensation services.
  13. Assist defense counsel and attend meetings, mediations, and court hearing as necessary.
  14. Serve as the liaison between the District and the TPA regarding all risk claims.
  15. Oversee the Occupational Health Program, the life insurance process, and coordinate safety trainings through computer-based training platform.
  16. Serve as chair on the Injury-In-the-Line of Duty Committee.
  17. Serve as a district representative at emergency shelters as determined by the Superintendent and provide leadership to ensure a secure work environment during an emergency or crisis situation.
  18. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of general risk management and accounting principles
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel
  • Ability to maintain con1identiality regarding employee records, vendor information, and District documents
  • Knowledge of local, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations to maintain compliance
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in Business Administration, Risk Management, or related field
  • Four years’ experience in the field of risk management
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s degree from an accredited institution in Business, Finance, Human Resources, or related field
  • Five years’ experience in human resources, benefits, or risk management
  • Prior experience in a supervisory or administrative role
  • Current and valid All-Lines Adjuster license

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently to lift, carry, push, pull or move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
