JOB GOAL

Responsible for providing students with the support and resources necessary for a successful transition to postsecondary education and/or the workforce and for performing varied duties to support the site.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Monitor students at employment sites, job training sites, and/or evaluation sites on and off campus at which an instructional staff member is not present.
  2. Develop a thorough knowledge of employment opportunities and/or training programs in which students will be placed, and perform all tasks prior to and concurrent with placement, as needed.
  3. Acquire background information, including current known academic levels and limitations of students, and use this information to identify potential job placements.
  4. Match students with employees and postsecondary opportunities for optimum success and meet with employers/employees at sites prior to student placement.
  5. Maintain open contact with employees and student trainees at the site after student placement to confer regarding student performance.
  6. Collect and record information and make observations of students to assist in the evaluation process.
  7. Assist in the presentation and distribution of evaluation results to student(s), teacher(s), and other authorized recipients while ensuring that the supervising teacher is regularly receiving updates on student progress.
  8. Coordinate job shadowing and student visits to postsecondary schools.
  9. Assist students with applications, financial aid, and disabilities services for postsecondary schools.
  10. Conduct Senior Transition Interviews.
  11. Monitor student attendance, punctuality, and behavior using positive behavior supports and behavioral management procedures.
  12. Perform clerical tasks associated with instructional activities, prepare the classroom for activities, and prepare/collect materials and equipment for teacher(s) as needed, including adaptive equipment when applicable.
  13. Continue professional growth through meetings, workshops, visiting facilities, reading related literature, and exchanging ideas with other staff members.
  14. Ride the bus and assist with the arrival, departure, and transportation of students as needed, including loading and unloading students at home and school and monitoring health status of students as needed.
  15. Provide support in developing/maintaining students’ daily living needs and medical needs, such as toilet needs, lifting, diapering, feeding and personal hygiene, transferring, positioning, and ambulation as necessary.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Knowledge of record-keeping procedures
  • Ability to collect, summarize, analyze, and graph data
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • One year of experience working with students in a classroom environment
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid and current Florida Driver's License for vehicle(s) driven

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Education, or related field
  • Two years’ experience working with students in a classroom environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish, written and oral fluency
  • Satisfactory completion of American Red Cross First Aid course, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) course

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • Proper use and handling of adaptive equipment and devices as necessary, and general office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
