JOB GOAL

This employee is responsible for working in cooperation with district and school staff to promote the involvement of parents with project and school activities and for organizing and implementing programs for parents which will assist them in meeting the educational needs of their children.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.

Planning:

  1. Assisting district and school-level staff in developing and implementing effective activities for the involvement of parents/families of children who receive services.
  2. Developing and implementing workshops for parents based on assessed needs.
  3. Continuing professional growth through an ongoing program of workshops, seminars, conferences, and/or advanced course work at institutions of higher learning.

Programming:

  1. Preparing and implementing parent/family workshop lessons that support the district's philosophy and curriculum.
  2. Selecting, developing and preparing appropriate instructional materials for parent/family workshops.
  3. Assisting school staff in providing additional educational resources and materials for students' use with their parents/families.
  4. Conferring with classroom teachers, upon request, concerning the educational needs of students.

Public Relations:

  1. Promoting the importance of a home-school team approach in meeting the educational needs of children.
  2. Assisting in providing program and school information to community groups and parents.
  3. Facilitating communication between teachers, students and parents.
  4. Informing parents of supportive services which will assist them in meeting the needs of their children.
  5. Being available to the families of children for school-related purposes during hours which may or may not coincide with a normal school day.

Reporting:

  1. Maintaining parent or family participation records.
  2. Maintaining an inventory of materials used in the parent/family involvement program.
  3. Completing required district and state reports.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to maintain effective working relationship with parents and school personnel.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor's degree.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Certification in early childhood, elementary education, reading or specific learning disabilities, guidance, school psychology, or social work.
  • Valid Florida driver's license.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master's degree in education or a related area.
  • Classroom teaching experience at the elementary level.
  • Fluent in Spanish as well as in English.
  • Background experience or training in counseling, guidance, social work, or exceptional child education.
  • Experience in a similar position.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
