JOB GOAL

Responsible for managing library media collections and collaborating with District technicians to ensure teachers and students have access to instructional resources and digital tools needed to impact teaching and learning. This includes collaborating with school staff to provide requested resources as well as supporting and guiding the daily operations of the media center/collaboration center.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Provide support to students and teachers in locating and using instructional resources such as library books, magazines, audio-visual and video materials, computerized information databases, digital-based learning programs, and related media/technology equipment.
  2. Provide beginning of the year media center orientation to students and staff to build knowledge and understanding of media center procedures and the resources and services available.
  3. Lead literacy activities and reading promotion, such as read alouds and reading contests, as well as create an engaging, inviting environment using book displays, signage, etc.
  4. Maintain media center collection, including regular shelving according to library organization standards, participate in the media center inventory process, and continually analyzing and weeding as needed to keep the collection current, appealing, accessible and organized.
  5. Circulate school and district media center and other interlibrary loan (ILL) materials and equipment to students and teachers utilizing appropriate database systems.
  6. Collaborate with Technology Services to maintain inventory records of all instructional materials including, but not limited to, textbooks, laptops, and other digital devices.
  7. Communicate instructional and/or technical resource needs including, but not limited to, website subscriptions, periodicals, audio-visual materials, library books, applications, hardware to instructional coaches and administrative staff for purchase consideration.
  8. Coordinate with hardware and software support technicians to ensure that technical support needs are met.
  9. Collaborate with Technology Services to perform periodic preventative maintenance of technology equipment and related systems.
  10. Assist with inventory tracking of replacement parts, tools, and other services-related equipment.
  11. Provide supervision of the processes and procedures, training, and support as needed within the school media center, including adult and student volunteer assistants.
  12. Attend monthly or routine meetings for the job class.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Willingness to learn or enhance digital technology skills through on-the-job training
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver's License

May be required to provide own transportation to District school sites.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Education, Communications, Information Technology, or related field
  • Two years’ experience in a similar position

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and / or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Noise: The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • General electronic diagnostic tools, and hand tools such as precision screwdrivers, pliers, etc. and general office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
