Educators Embrace Summer Tradition with Plush Turtles

This post was created on 07/01/2024.

As the summer break of 2024 began, staff at East Pasco Education Academy (EPEA) were excited to select their summer buddies from a variety of plush turtles. This joyful tradition, initiated in the summer of 2023, has quickly become a beloved activity among the staff.

Principal Shelley Carrino remarked on the event's success, stating, "This was a fun and very effective activity to keep staff connected and smiling during the summer months." Each teacher at EPEA carefully chose and named their small plush turtle companions, embarking on a summer of shared adventures and heartwarming experiences.

Throughout the summer, teachers proudly showcased their turtles in fun photos taken on vacation, at meet-ups with other teachers (and their turtles), and even during doctor's appointments. One memorable photo featured a plush turtle by a sea turtle nest in Miami, playfully captioned as "waiting for its cousins to hatch." These delightful images were regularly uploaded to the school's Facebook page, much to the delight of students and parents, who loved checking out their teachers' joyous escapades.

"The playful and imaginative connection that this brings to EPEA staff members has really brought us even closer together," Shelley Carrino emphasized. This tradition has not only strengthened the bond between staff members but has also humanized teachers, creating a new level of engagement and connection with students and parents.

The initiative has proven to be a fantastic bonding exercise, bringing smiles to the community and showcasing the vibrant spirit of EPEA’s educators. As this tradition continues to grow, it promises to foster an environment of positivity and camaraderie for years to come.
