Pasco County Schools is proud to announce that it has been recognized as an Exemplary District by the Commissioner of Education’s African American History Task Force (AAHTF). This prestigious designation is awarded to districts that demonstrate exceptional commitment to the structured teaching of African American history and fostering awareness of African American contributions and achievements.
Pasco County is one of only 12 districts in the state to earn this recognition. This honor reflects the dedication of our educators, administrators, district staff, parents, and community partners who have worked together to integrate African American history into 180 days of instruction, aligned professional learning opportunities, and meaningful connections with community organizations.
The journey to achieving Exemplary Status began in 2022 when Pasco’s African American History Task Force—comprised of educators, district leaders, parents, and partners from local universities and organizations—developed and implemented a two-year plan to bring this initiative to life.
The African American History Task Force Chair, Glen Gilzean, will present the certificate of recognition at the Pasco County School Board meeting on February 4, 2025.
