Effective July 1, 2019, HB 7071 amends section 1003.4282, Florida Statutes (F.S.), such that, beginning with the 2019-2020 school year, a student who earns a computer science credit may substitute the credit for up to one credit of the mathematics requirement (with the exception of Algebra I and Geometry) or up to one credit of the science requirement (except for Biology I). The commissioner is required to identify computer science credits that are equivalent in rigor to the mathematics and science credits and may therefore be used for substitution. An identified computer science credit may not be used to substitute for both a mathematics and a science credit.

Although the computer science courses may be used as math and/or science substituons at the high school level students should research each college/university or post secondary institution regarding  how the substitution is recognized.
