J. W. Mitchell High School
I have taken honors, Advanced Placement (AP), and Dual Enrollment (DE) classes all my life. The following courses are the most challenging: AP Psychology, DE English Composition (1 & 2), DE College Algebra, DE Precalculus/Trigonometry, DE Intro to Humanities, DE Intro to Sociology, DE Micro Computer Applications, DE American Government, AP Microeconomics, AP Statistics, DE Intro to Public Speaking, and I am awaiting approval for four more DE courses for my second semester.
As a Student Council Representative in grades 10-12, I have had the opportunity to be a role model for the school, collaborate with other members on new ideas, and organize school-wide events and fundraisers. As a Social Inclusion Executive Board Member, I have had the greatest opportunity to be a friend to the ESE students at my school by organizing different school-wide events that they can participate in.
I volunteer at churches to make sandwiches and pack bags of food for homeless shelters. Through Teen Court I act as the jury, prosecution, or defense, for teenagers who are convicted of a crime and want to clean their record. At TherHappy Therapy Services I work with different students through occupational, speech, behavioral, and hippotherapy. At elementary schools and the YMCA, I help coordinate events like Winter Wonderland, Fall Festival, and Trunk or Treat.
I am an active member of my community by continuing to help others every chance I get. I do this by being a friend to the ESE students at my school and continuing to better their lives. I also do a variety of volunteering services at churches, shelters, elementary schools, libraries, YMCA, and my own school. By doing this, I have the opportunity to benefit my community, while also learning new things about myself.
