RECYCLING is a key element in reducing the solid waste volume at your school. Solid waste dumpster capacity is based on the school’s student enrollment. Schools are encouraged to recycle a variety of items to keep dumpsters at or below the recommended capacity. The dumpster capacity will fluctuate throughout the year as student enrollment changes.
As part of the solid waste bid, all service requests for the solid waste dumpster must go through Conservation and Recycling Operations. Most solid waste dumpsters are emptied between 4:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. If your normally scheduled pick-up for your solid waste dumpsters was missed, inform Conservation and Recycling Operations as soon as possible, so that we can try to correct the problem the same day. Requests for service after 8:30 a.m. may not be done the same day. To keep solid waste costs at a minimum, extra pick-ups of your dumpster are only granted as necessary. Dumpsters with broken lids or missing plugs should be reported as soon as possible so they can be repaired.
Per Pasco County ordinance there are specific solid waste items that are unacceptable to place in a front-load dumpster. All items containing 50% metal or more must be recycled as metal. Yard waste and tree limbs should be cut into manageable size pieces before being placed in the dumpster. Plastic floor care buckets should be rinsed with the lid removed and placed upside down in the recycling area. Bulky or very large solid waste items may need to be disassembled to reduce their size prior to placing in the dumpster. This will prevent solid waste items from getting stuck inside the dumpster. Please contact Conservation and Recycling Operations if you are unsure if an item can be placed in the dumpster.
Per Pasco County ordinance there are specific solid waste items that are unacceptable to place in a roll-off container. Roll-off containers are available to remove a large amount of solid waste or construction debris (created by school or in-house Maintenance Department projects). To keep solid waste costs at a minimum, roll-off containers will only be provided as necessary. Outside contractors that are awarded bids to build or renovate existing buildings usually provide their own front-load and roll-off services as part of the bid. To order a roll-off container, please fill out the Non-Capitalized Furniture, Equipment, and Consumable Materials form and email to cro@pasco.k12.fl.us. Please contact Conservation and Recycling Operations if you need assistance filling out this form.
All items with an asset tag number must be written on a MIS-210 form and submittted to Property Control. Pending Board approval, items can be disgarded.
Hazardous materials (such as paint, sealants, and chemicals) and hazardous waste should be disposed of by utilizing the Chemical Disposal Form. Please contact the Operations Service Specialist for more information at (727) 774-7947.
