Ways to help save when accessing services

Only Use Emergency Room Facilities for Life-threatening Emergencies

Emergency room visits are costly for both the employee and the employer. Currently employees pay a $1,000 copay for emergency room visits as well as additional charges per provider on the basic HMO plan.  There is a $150 copay at urgent care facilities for the same plan. Urgent care facilities are less expensive for employees and plan costs for non-life-threatening situations. The wait time at an urgent care is usually less than an emergency room.

Please be aware that Standalone Emergency Rooms located throughout the county that are run by AdventHealth and HCA are NOT urgent care centers and are billed at a traditional emergency room rate.

Utilize Value Choice Urgent Care Services.

Guidewell Emergency Doctors are a great option for urgent care services. There are 3 locations in Tampa, 1 in Dunedin and 1 in Largo. They are open 7 days a week for walk-ins or scheduled appointments. The first two visits per calendar year are $0 co-pay for employees and dependents on our medical plan. The physicians at Guidewell are all Board-Certified Emergency Medicine Doctors that have at least 5 years’ experience in an ER setting.
