JOB GOAL

Responsible for planning and developing innovative programs, coordinating and facilitating school choice options, including magnet schools and programs, charter school, private school and home education options consistent with and supportive of the District’s vision, mission, and strategic goals. Ensure quality student experiences through co-curricular and extra-curricular options. Primary functions include developing, monitoring, leading and coordinating innovative programs and school choice, leading advanced studies and elective education options as well as programs and options that promote and enhance the student experience.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Direct the development of system-wide plans for magnet, innovative and advanced studies through the use of collaborative problem solving and data-driven decision-making; establish procedures to periodically evaluate and make modifications as appropriate.
  2. Direct and coordinate charter school, private school, home education options and options that promote and enhance the student experience for students and families, coordinate support and adherence with applicable laws and District policy with respect to charter schools, private schools, home education and the student experience.
  3. Collaborate with other departments and divisions to develop, implement, and monitor school choice, innovative and advanced studies options for students.
  4. Ensure quality co-curricular and extra-curricular options for engagement of students.
  5. Ensure district-wide student experiences to promote a positive connection between students and schools.
  6. Direct a quality athletic program for students throughout the county.
  7. Promote and support school choice, innovative and advanced options, and the student experience through assisting school and District staff in understanding key issues, providing resource materials, and involving school and District leaders.
  8. Facilitate capacity building and successful goal attainment through coaching, professional learning networks, problem solving and strategic planning.
  9. Maintain contact with other school districts, governmental agencies, and professional management associations to keep abreast of laws, regulations, statutes, policies, current research, and best practices.
  10. Identify, disseminate, and create discussion forums related to research and best practices.
  11. Assist in the interpretation of programs, philosophy and polices of the District to staff, students and the community.
  12. Participate in school advisory, business, and community groups and activities, and serve on committees, councils, and community partnerships to support the District’s vision, mission, goals and strategic priorities.
  13. Respond quickly to emergency situations and serve as a district representative at emergency shelters as determined by the Superintendent.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of curriculum and instruction with respect to magnet programs, innovative options, advanced studies
  • Knowledge of school choice options, including magnet, charter, and private schools and home education options
  • Knowledge of curriculum and programs that support the student experience
  • Knowledge of current trends in curriculum, teaching methods and strategies; best practices in school choice, innovative options, advanced studies and the student experience; planning and project management; and collaboration, coordination, and facilitation of work groups.
  • Ability to analyze data and skills to format data into effective programs.
  • Ability to read and interpret journals, articles, research studies, Florida statutes, State Board rules, and School Board policies.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences orally and in writing, including electronic media.

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited educational institution
  • Training and /or experience in school choice, innovative options and advanced studies, curriculum and instruction

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Certification in Educational Leadership, School Principal or Professional School Principal

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring and training employees; promoting and transferring employees; planning, assigning and directing work; evaluating performance; rewarding, disciplining and terminating employees; and addressing complaints and resolving problems for assigned personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and / or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, talk, and hear; stand and walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 25 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
