JOB GOAL

Responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of all Head Start and Early Head Start school sites by meeting or exceeding all related Head Start Performance Standards. Collaborate with District and School Staff to order resources, maintain inventory records and submit necessary work orders. Responsible for conducting safety inspections and performing minor repairs or maintenance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Ensure Early Head Start and Head Start facilities, portables, and playgrounds meet compliance standards and government regulations by conducting monthly safety inspections.
  2. Provide routine inspections of interior and exterior areas and follow up to ensure areas are free of safety hazards, trash, weeds, and other foreign materials.
  3. Use a variety of hand and power tools and material handling equipment when performing day-to-day job functions.
  4. Establish, maintain, and organize operational records for assigned facilities.
  5. Recommend maintenance, mechanical, electrical, and facility design modifications to Leadership Team.
  6. Work collaboratively with the Bookkeeper and Supervisors to plan for and allocate resources for the needs and requirements of all sites.
  7. Submit timely work orders and communicate the status of the orders as needed.
  8. Maintain an inventory of replacement parts, tools, and other services related equipment for minor repairs noted during safety inspections.
  9. Coordinate moving office furniture, fixtures, resources, and equipment within and between sites to support staff changes, relocations, remodels, and program expansion.
  10. Coordinate and schedule repair, maintenance, upkeep, moving & transport of Early Head Start and Head Start playground structures.
  11. Maintain an inventory system including laptops, iPads and other digital devices, using the District inventory system.
  12. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Ability to complete minor repair of doors, windows, locks, desks, etc.
  • Ability to plan, budget, take inventory, and order resources using online systems
  • Knowledge of Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) recommendations, regulations, and work safety practices
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • All hires must meet physical requirements of Post Offer Employment Testing (POET)

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver’s License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver II Plan. Driver license must be maintained as a condition of continued employment

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate Degree in Facilities Management, Business Management or Construction Management or related field, from an accredited institution
  • Experience in a similar position of facilities maintenance, construction, or operations involving minor repair work
  • Experience in a school, district, or educational facility

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

Hand and power tools of all kinds, ladders, lawn care equipment, furniture moving equipment, dollies, and general office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
