JOB GOAL

Responsible for providing legal services support in the areas of public records compliance, investigations, legal document preparation, records management, and legal process administration. Assists with the review, collection, and management of information related to legal matters while ensuring compliance with applicable laws, policies, and procedures.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Maintain organized legal files and ensure compliance with records retention requirements.
  2. Support attorneys or leadership with case preparation, including compiling exhibits, timelines, and supporting documentation.
  3. Process public records requests in accordance with Chapter 119, Florida Statutes, including identifying, collecting, reviewing, and organizing responsive records.
  4. Apply statutory exemptions and perform legally compliant redactions consistent with Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), Florida law, and District guidelines.
  5. Draft clear, well-structured legal correspondence, memoranda, and reports based on underlying documents, investigative materials, and applicable law.
  6. Assist legal counsel with responding to questions regarding legal processes.
  7. Review and analyze documents to produce accurate written work product.
  8. Assist with preparation of documentation for Title IX investigations and responses.
  9. Assist with preparation of documents for hearings, litigation, and administrative proceedings, including Truancy Court.
  10. Maintain a detailed and up-to-date database.
  11. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Working knowledge of Florida public records law and student privacy requirements
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reviewing and redacting documents
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize competing tasks
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, and manage work assignments in an efficient manner and within established timeframes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, Word, Outlook
  • Proficiency in Adobe Acrobat, including document review and redaction
  • Proficiency in legal research platforms (Westlaw, LexisNexis)

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution
  • Minimum of 2-4 years of experience in a legal, compliance, or administrative role
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in the field of Legal Studies, or related field

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently. If the use of arm and / or leg controls require exertion of forces greater than that for sedentary work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated as Light Work.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
