JOB GOAL

Responsible for analyzing and troubleshooting network related issues and making recommendations for repair or replacement based upon emerging technology trends and best practices.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Analyze existing network hardware and software to determine systems needs and recommend updates, enhancements, or replacements to management when necessary.
  2. Troubleshoot network usage levels, patterns, anomalies, and errors, and determine corrective and preventative measures required to maintain network optimization.
  3. Study and document workflow procedures and specifications to ensure efficient network operations and identify needed upgrades.
  4. Develop and support a variety of network systems requiring cross-platform integration, importing/exporting of data, account credential creation, automation, interfacing, and related tasks.
  5. Coordinate and develop backup routines and systems for network equipment to ensure continuous service and network stability.
  6. Assist in refining policies and procedures related to technology use including downloading, data share, and data privacy and protection policies that comply with local, state, and federal rules and regulations.
  7. Research and evaluate emerging technology trends to ensure district equipment and department operations are relevant to modern standards and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  8. Initiate trainings and develop technical documents to ensure effective and efficient use of technology with all stakeholders.
  9. Write, test, and debug complex programs related to network automation that enable efficient and effective flow of data.
  10. Prepare, coordinate, and supervise network implementation to ensure proper system set up, configuration, and security within established parameters and guidelines.
  11. Assist in budget development for network purchases and equipment and software refresh.
  12. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  13. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  14. Perform other duties as assigned.

  • All hires must submit to and pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests in accordance with District requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in the field of Computer Science, or related field
  • Three years’ experience in a similar position
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver Plan. Driver’s License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s Degree from an accredited institution in the field of Computer Science, or related field
  • Five years’ experience in a similar position
  • Knowledge of PowerShell scripting and/or Visual Basic scripting
  • Microsoft Certified Professional Development (MCPD), and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Associate (MCSA), and/or Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
  • Experience in a supervisory role

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move object.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • General electronic diagnostic tools and hand tools including, but not limited to, precision screwdrivers and pliers
  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.
  • Must be able to drive a District vehicle OR may need to provide own transportation to drive to various locations within the District.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
