JOB GOAL

Responsible for supporting the planning, coordinating, and implementing of District network systems and associated applications.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Oversee operations of District network systems.
  2. Provide direction to and supervise assigned personnel, assist in annual performance evaluations, and make recommendations for appropriate employment actions.
  3. Identify areas of concern while providing solutions, assigning tasks to team members, addressing complaints, and resolving within regulation and policy constraints.
  4. Collaborate with the evaluation, design, implementation and support of new and existing network equipment, server systems, and software platforms.
  5. Contribute and participate in monitoring network performance, troubleshooting network problems, and scheduling updates to systems and related technology.
  6. Assist in developing comprehensive plans for program review including development, implementation, coordination, and evaluation of new and existing network equipment and services.
  7. Assist and direct staff in the audit of network equipment to ensure efficient operations and compliance with federal, state, and District laws, rules, and regulations.
  8. Contribute to designing, monitoring, and implementing network specifications for educational facilities, technology systems, and other related technology equipment and materials.
  9. Conduct and complete required reports for appropriate federal, state, and local educational agencies.
  10. Research and evaluate emerging technology trends to ensure District equipment and department operations are relevant to modern standards and in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  11. Assist in providing guidance and input for on-site network transport and installation based on industry standards and design specifications.
  12. Provide technical assistance and training to end users on topics associated with network services, security, and other related technology issues.
  13. Coordinate with various telecommunications contractors and/or telephone company providers to ensure efficient operations and limit network down time.
  14. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  15. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  16. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of current products, services, and applications available for local area network (LAN)/wide area network (WAN) and data communications systems
  • Knowledge of client-server network applications, computing systems, electronics, and software development
  • Ability to understand federal, state, and local District reporting requirements, regulations, and procedures
  • Ability to create network schematics
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • All hires must submit to and pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests in accordance with District requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • Three years' experience with network systems, or related experience
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver Plan. Driver’s License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Communication Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Five years’ experience with network systems, or related experience
  • Working knowledge of current Premise Distribution Specifications for Education Facilities (PDSEF)
  • Knowledge of multiple network protocols and switched and routed networking
  • Registered Communications Distribution Designer (RCDD)
  • Valid and current Network+ Certification

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

Direct supervision of assigned personnel. Responsibilities include planning, assigning, and directing work; addressing complaints and resolving problems; training employees; evaluating performance; and interviewing, testing, hiring, and assignment of personnel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Medium Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • General electronic diagnostic tools and hand tools including, but not limited to, precision screwdrivers and pliers
  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.
  • Must be able to drive a District vehicle OR may need to provide own transportation to drive to various locations within the District.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
