JOB GOAL

Responsible for providing support in the operation of the District networks by installing, troubleshooting, and maintaining computer hardware, software, and data communications equipment, and supporting end users in the use of such equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this position. These statements are not intended to be construed as an exhaustive list of all duties and responsibilities required of those in this position.
  1. Provide support to end-users to ensure access to network and phone services, including performing telephone repairs, telephone and network moves, adds, and changes to equipment as needed.
  2. Install, troubleshoot, and maintain equipment for networks, including hardware, software, and data communications equipment.
  3. Conduct regularly scheduled preventative maintenance of equipment and related systems, ensuring that all actions are documented according to District standards.
  4. Maintain detailed and accurate records of parts, supplies, materials, and personnel time used to repair and provide preventative maintenance services on equipment and related systems to ensure compliance with vendor and District standards.
  5. Conduct continuous maintenance of current inventory of replacement parts, tools, and other technology services-related equipment.
  6. Troubleshoot and repair data and telephone cabling.
  7. Install network and telephone cable and infrastructure in accordance with all local, state, and federal regulations using Building Industry Consulting Service International (BICSI) standards and methods as guidelines.
  8. Coordinate with contractors and/or telephone company personnel that perform related services as needed.
  9. Assist the network administrator in requirements analysis, network application design, implementation, problem investigation/resolution, and network application evaluation.
  10. Evaluate and recommend hardware and software upgrades.
  11. Maintain compliance with School Board policy at all times.
  12. Maintain required certifications, participate in professional development workshops and in-service training sessions as required, attend required meetings, and keep abreast of current trends, laws, regulations, and statutes.
  13. Perform other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of current products and services available and application to local area network (LAN)/wide area network (WAN) and data communications systems
  • Knowledge of computing systems, electronics, and software development required to design, manage, and troubleshoot high performance client-server network applications
  • Knowledge of client-server network applications
  • Ability to effectively engage in the problem-solving process
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others and facilitate groups to consensus
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, orally and in writing, including electronic media
  • Excellent time management skills and ability to organize, prioritize, manage, and carry out duties efficiently and within established timeframes
  • Operating knowledge of computer programs, including email, word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and web-based technologies and platforms
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with all stakeholders
  • All hires must submit to and pass an initial drug test and subsequent random drug tests in accordance with District requirements

EDUCATION, TRAINING & EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) from an accredited institution
  • OR
  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform the essential duties and responsibilities of the position

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES & REGISTRATIONS

  • Valid Florida Driver's License
  • Must maintain a driving record that meets the standards of the District Safe Driver Plan. Driver’s License must be maintained as a condition of continued employment.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution in the field of Communications Engineering, Computer Science, or related field
  • Three years’ experience in a similar position
  • Valid and current Network+ Certification

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Heavy Work: Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands and arms, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, and hear. The employee occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 100 pounds. Specific vision ability required by this job includes close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Indoors and Outdoors: The worker is subject to both environmental conditions. Activities occur inside and outside.

Heat: The worker is subject to extreme heat. Temperatures are above 100 degrees for periods of more than one hour.

Noise: The worker is subject to noise. There is sufficient noise to cause the worker to shout in order to be heard above the ambient noise level.

Vibration: The worker is subject to vibration. There is exposure to oscillating movements of the extremities or whole body.

Hazards: The worker is subject to hazards. This includes a variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, working on scaffolding and high places and exposure to high heat or chemicals.

Atmospheric Conditions: The worker is subject to atmospheric conditions. One or more of the following conditions affect the respiratory systems or the skin: fumes, odors, mists, gases or poor ventilation.

Oils: The worker is subject to oils. There is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.

Respirator: The worker is required to wear a respirator.

MACHINES, TOOLS, EQUIPMENT

  • General network tools and installation equipment, including punch down tools, shovels, wire cutters/strippers, etc.
  • General office equipment, including personal computers, fax machines, copiers, telephones, etc.
  • Must be able to drive a District vehicle OR may need to provide own transportation to drive to various locations within the District.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the District’s approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be established by the District.

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the School Board’s policy on evaluation of personnel.
