Sunlake High School
I have completed my AP Capstone Diploma, which means I have passed both AP Seminar and AP Research. As part of AP Research, I have conducted a study on the media's coding of sex myth. I have a taken a total of 12 AP classes, getting a score of 5 in ten of them, and getting a score of 4 in two of them. I am especially proud of my 5 in AP Chemistry, as it was a class that I struggled in. I have gotten all As in my classes since the beginning of my freshman year. I have worked incredibly hard to always challenge myself, as I believe is reflected in my academic achievements. I have also been recognized as a National Merit semifinalist and am currently waiting for the final results of this award.
I am the leader of several clubs in Sunlake, and each represents a facet of my love for helping others. One of my primary roles is as the Chair of the Council of Governors for the Junior State of America, a debate and activism club. This essentially means that within this student-led organization, I am the highest ranking official. In this role, I organize events with around 2,000 people to help participate in our democracy through phone banking, volunteering, and more. Furthermore, I organize conventions for hundreds of youths to debate the hottest issues of the day. I am the president and founder of the Philosophy Club, which helps create dialogues within our community about hard-pressed issues. I am the president and founder of Math Olympiad, which is a competitive math club at our school. Through this club, we have organized several events with other schools over the last three years. I am the president of Mu Alpha Theta, our math honors society, which helps provide tutoring to everyone at our school. I am also the co-president of the National History Honors society, which provides many of the same services for classes in history. I am also the co-founder and co-president of the Model United Nations club, where we enable students to learn about global politics and become engaged members of their society. Finally, for two years I have helped organize my class’s skit, including writing the script, and helping with the direction.
My service is mostly focused on changing my community for the better, which largely takes two roles: political activism and community outreach. For the former, I have participated and organized countless voter registration drives along with phone banking for nonprofit organizations trying to increase voter participation. One summer, I participated in an unpaid internship at a newspaper to help increase community involvement. I also focus a lot on making a direct impact on the community. Although I am often restrained by my time, I regularly volunteer with the local animal shelters and food pantries for underserved people. For me, it’s an opportunity to make the change I constantly talk about actually happen.
