I hope everyone had a good spring break with family and friends, and you are well rested and ready to take on the last two months of this school year.
We have made great strides since August, including not only hitting our Race to Read goal of 15-million minutes, but exceeding it. Congratulations! We have also seen decreases in absenteeism, but we need your continued efforts to ensure we end the year with everyone in school, everyday. Families, please ensure your students are in class and remain actively engaged in their coursework. Community members, help us in these efforts by being an encouraging partner with students and families as we work to finish the school year strong.
It is April, but our journey with Race to Read is far from over, so keep reading! Make sure you continue to build on the habit of reading thirty minutes or more each day. Whether it’s a book, article, or your textbooks, it will keep your literacy comprehension strong and greatly impact your academic success.
Students, keep up this solid momentum. Please remember to be respectful to your fellow students and teachers as everyone is working tirelessly to finish the year positively. We are embarking on the final stretch, so remember your goals, or set new ones and do not waiver in your commitment to these goals. Hard work, kindness, and understanding will only make these final months even better as you continue to obtain a world-class education.
Warmest regards,
Superintendent Kurt Browning

This April, we celebrate National Financial Literacy Month. This time is a great opportunity to highlight the importance of financial literacy and teach our students how to establish and maintain healthy financial habits.
To celebrate the month and encourage our students to be financially smart citizens in our communities, Pasco County Schools, in partnership with our valued community partners, will offer virtual experiences and opportunities throughout the month. These events are designed to help parents/guardians, employees, community members, and students with financial planning matters and get more information for starting a financially successful future.
Please encourage your student to be on the lookout beginning April 1 on their myPascoConnect dashboard with information on how to access a course through myLearning to build their understanding of financial literacy and be entered to win prizes! A Financial Literacy reading challenge will be available on student Beanstack dashboards from April 1 - 30. The challenge will include two 30-minute reading badges and two activity badges. Schools are encouraged to participate and promote student engagement with Financial Literacy topics. All stakeholders are encouraged to showcase the learning and tag #PascoFinancialLiteracy and #PCSCelebratesFinancialLiteracy on social media throughout the month. Varied student competitions, fun facts, and resources will be featured throughout the month. Visit the district's Financial Literacy webpage for regularly updated information and details about the upcoming activities and competitions.

13 schools recently received Beanstack’s inaugural Reading Culture Trailblazer award. This recognition is given to schools who have at least 75 percent of students actively logging their reading since the beginning of the school year. This includes participation in the district challenges (R.A.C.E. to Read, quarterly required instruction challenges, and Celebrate Literacy Week), as well as any individual school-based challenges.
Each of the 13 schools received a $150 gift card redeemable at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Papa John’s, Dunkin, Target, or Walmart to celebrate reading or donate to charity. They also earned a Reading Culture Trailblazer digital badge.
Our Reading Culture Trailblazer schools are:
We are so proud of this recognition and the efforts of teachers and staff to increase student literacy! We will continue encouraging all of our students to keep reading and hope to see more schools earn this award throughout the rest of the school year.
We are so proud of the creative bookmark entries we received during Celebrate Literacy Week! It was difficult to choose just one winner for each level: elementary, middle, and high school, so we are excited to announce that 5 winners were chosen at each level!
Each winning school will receive 500 bookmarks featuring the student's design for their library media center! All winning bookmarks will also be displayed on the district website.
Congratulations!

Following the tragic events at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High school, a vital step has been taken to enhance safety measures in our public schools. With the hard work and dedication of Lori Alhadeff, the founder of Make Our Schools Safe, the Florida Legislature approved Senate Bill 70 during the 2020 Legislative Session. This bill mandates the implementation of a mobile panic alert system in all public schools across the state.
Named in memory of Alyssa Alhadeff, the foundation of Alyssa's Law requires that every Florida public elementary and secondary school building be equipped with a silent panic system alarm linked directly to local law enforcement. This critical tool aims to eliminate delays in emergency responses, ensuring that accurate and timely information is relayed to first responders in case of any crisis.
As of the 2021-2022 school year, all Florida public schools, including charters, are required to have the “Alyssa’s Alert” system in place. This system will enable immediate coordination between various emergency services technologies, facilitating real-time communication among multiple first responder agencies.
The Pasco County School District takes the safety of our students and staff very seriously not only by following Alyssa’s law, but by ensuring all our staff members are trained regularly to become proficient utilizing this technology.
The District believes that the well-being of our students and staff are of utmost importance, and having an Alyssa’s alert system in place helps in creating a secure learning environment for everyone.
