Our medical carrier is changing from Florida Blue to United Healthcare effective Jaunuary 1, 2027. What does this mean:
UHC will offer 2 medical plans for employees to select from: the HMO Plan and the Surest Plan.
The HMO plan helps keep healthcare costs lower by providng coverage through a specific network of doctors, hospitals, and providers. There is no out-of-network coverage, so you'll need to use a Florida based in-network provider. Below is the HMO Plan overview:
The Surest plan gives you choice, flexibility, and cost tansparency. With Surest, employees will take greater ownership of their healthcare decisions by researching providers and identifying physicians with lower copays. This approach empowers employees to make informed choices about both their healthcare and financial needs. Here are a few highlights on the Surest plan:

We're pleased to announce that The Hartford will become the new provider for your voluntary benefits, replacing The Standard. Your accident, critical illness and hospital indemnity benefits will remain the same, with rates staying the same or decreasing.

Your disability coverage is transitioing from Unum to The Hartford. With this change, you'll receive an enhaced short-term disability option, while your long-term disability options will remain the same.

Pasco Schools has partnered with FedLogic. FedLogic is an advocacy service that gives employees access to a team of experts who can assist you in understanding federal and state benefit options. Their experts have worked for the Social Security Administration and have spent years mastering these policies from the inside out. If coverage under the District's plan is too expensive for your dependents FedLogic can assist you with other programs such as Medicare, Medicaid and plans through Healthcare.gov just to name a few. Any surgery completed during 2027 will have a $750 copay per procedure. This copay will be collected at the time of the surgery. The copay is strictly for those employees that will require a surgery. The $750 copay will go toward the employees out of pocket maximum for the 2027 plan year under United Healthcare.
Lantern covers thousands of planned, non-emergency procedures, including orthopedic, cardiac, spine and more.
